My Approach
My Work Is Framed By Gestalt Therapy, Interpersonal Neurobiology And Relational Psychodynamics
Compared to most talk therapy, we will play a lot, move and dramatize with or without props and costumes. We might use art or touch where you are comfortable and have freely agreed. We might do meditation or guided imagery or energy work. There are intuitive, psychic and spiritual elements in my practice that I will use or not depending on you the client.
HOW WE DO IT?
Compared to most talk therapy, we will play a lot, move and dramatize with or without props and costumes. We might use art or touch where you are comfortable and have freely agreed. We might do meditation or guided imagery or energy work. There are intuitive, psychic and spiritual elements in my practice that I will use or not depending on you the client.
COACHING
I was a coach before practicing therapy, working with competitive athletes first, and later sales professionals, their managers, and their leaders. A goal, Strategy, and Action are conceptual pieces that apply to coach practice in both business and personal issues. In some therapy that is more skills-oriented, the same pieces apply and a coaching framework can be useful and effective.
ASSESSMENT AND DIAGNOSIS
I am trained to do therapy with a person who has been diagnosed with a mental illness and I collaborate with other mental health professionals and medical doctors where a Clinical Assessment, Psychiatric Diagnosis or prescription drugs are part of leaving illness behind and becoming well.
WELLNESS AND ILLNESS
The medical model can be pernicious when it comes to mental health. It is somehow comforting and easier for a Therapist to imagine a “patient” as ill or suffering from a disease like depression or anxiety, or a personality disorder. If you come to me after receiving a medical diagnosis, we can work together, and the diagnosis might help in our work, but it will not define you or our work.
SURVIVING AND THRIVING
For some clients, survival is success. You might be killing yourself more or less slowly through various means connected to self-hatred, shame, or who-knows-why. In this case, survival comes first.
It might be a marriage or relationship or family that is threatened with extinction or extreme dysfunction and if the parties to the relationship want to grow together, its survival is first.
